Collectively then there are a series of established myths that shape our remembrance of the War. By confronting them head-on we can perhaps reassess our opinion of how the War is remembered. A prime example of this is the debate around the executions of British soldiers during the War by firing squads as a result of Courts Martial. The ‘Shot at Dawn’ and Pardons Campaign movements have attempted to get a blanket pardon for all soldiers executed during the War.
