Abstract

Photographs, one from the air, showing the Ypres-Menin Road battlefield near Polygon Wood, of which Edmund Blunden writes, 'Those who argue over the Passchendaele offensive should remember the shell-holes!'; a ruined village at the 'Fin d/s Somme', 'One of my last Villages, 1918'; and the ruins at Péronne. The book was compiled by Blunden with the intention of providing complementary photographs supporting the narrative and poems of 'Undertones of War' (1928), and was inscribed 'E.B. New Year, 1935' while Blunden was living in North Oxford, a neighbour of Graham Greene.
