Abstract

Written while Ivor Gurney was at Lord Derby's War Hospital, Warrington, a centre for the treatment of shell shock. Discusses a concert / the setting of W.W. Gibson's poetry to music / 'neuralgia' / the Carnegie Quartet / possibly setting an Edward Thomas poem to music / feeling better but unlikely to be let go for a bit / a letter from a mutual friend describing a visit to H.N. Howells / includes the poem 'The Fisherman of Newnham', which was later included in 'War's Embers' (1919) and dedicated to Gurney's father, and asks for Howells' opinion of it / wonders how best to send money to his father / wishes for a letter and news from Gloucester.
