Abstract
Manuscript in pen in Ivor Gurney's hand. This is a draft containing parts of the poem 'I Saw England - July Night', found in the black manuscript exercise book 64.4 and as a typescript. The reference to 'Will Squele' in line 13 can be found as the 'Cotswold man' of Shakespeare's '11 Henry IV', and line 15 beginning 'Sussex tales out of Roman' probably refers to Rudyard Kipling's 'Puck of Pook Hill'. Found in a green hard-covered manuscript exercise book, marked 'The Note Book / (between music makings) / of Ivor Gurney / 1921-1922 / 'corrected Feb 1925' / 'Ivor Gurney''.
