Abstract
Men of the 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, Charles W. Carr is standing far-left. Postcard is addressed to Charles' father, Caxton House, High St., Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire (now Powys), in Wales. Postmark is Epping.
Part of large collection of photos and memoribilia relating to Serjeant 3091 (later 240965) Charles Woodward Carr, 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment - kept by Mrs Gill Porter and Mr Tony Carr of their father.
Editor's Comment:
Two other photographs of the same group of men are also submitted, though they appear to have changed places between shots.
Charles Carr wears the 'Imperial Service' tablet on his right breast, indicating that he was a member of the Territorial Force and had volunteered for foreign service.
The group have been issued with the emergency Pattern 1914 infantry equipment, and are armed with the Japanese Type 38 Arisaka rifle and bayonet, imported on the outbreak of war to meet the demand for training weapons.
