Abstract
A local paper printed in 1915 an article regarding a local man who himself had fought and been a soldier for over 50 years. He was upset that the army would not be able to use him in the great war due to his age. He ommitted to tell them that he already had at that time 6 sons and a son in law already fighting for their country. The article pictures them all and names them; it also gives a short biography for each. 2 years later in a follow up article more information is given on the brave man and on the loss of two brothers. One in Loos and one in Basra. Another brother had by this time also joined up. Since this was a time of large families maybe this was not such an uncommon event but surely seven sons fighting for the same outcome was a very honorable thing for any family to have. 90 years have passed and many generations who dont know the sacrifice made by these men. We know that in this family it has come as a surprise when we discovered these articles. I as great grandaughter to William Hill have, with my Uncle, been researching our tree and have been intigued by this outcome. I as a schoolchild visited Loos and stood at the graves of these young men not knowing that my blood spilled there. Now I know.
