Abstract
Inscribed 'For Baba' a reference to Edward Thomas' second daughter Myfanwy. Written at Selsfield House where Edward Thomas spent time as a paying guest in the winter of 1912 and the spring of 1914, and where Edward and Helen Thomas came to spend the last four days of his leave visiting friends. It reveals Edward Thomas' close involvement with his children during his leaves from the army. The manuscript is untitled but is labeled 'The Gallows' in 'Edward Thomas Collected Poems'.
