Terms and Conditions for User Contributions

This document contains the terms applicable to users who submit contributions to the Their Finest Hour project via the Their Finest Hour ‘Digital Collection Form’ either on behalf of themselves or at the request of others. 

The user must be aware that the University of Oxford strives to make content available for reuse for educational, non-commercial and commercial purposes worldwide with a minimum of restrictions (CC BY 4.0 International licence).  

These terms establish that the following content submitted via the Their Finest Hour ‘Digital Collection Form’ will be made available on the Their Finest Hour digital archive: 

With your permission/the permission of the individual a submission is being made on the behalf of, the following content will also be made available through the Their Finest Hour digital archive: 

*Please note, if you include any contact details (e.g. email address/postal address) within your submission, these details will not be made available online. Also, if you choose to be anonymous, your name will not be displayed. 

By agreeing to these terms, you agree to allow anyone to view, edit and share the content that you submit and to treat it as non-confidential.  

If you do not agree with these terms, please do not make a submission to the Their Finest Hour project via this website. 

Summary 

Before you make a submission using the Their Finest Hour ‘Digital Collection Form’, you, or the individual you are making a submission on the behalf of, must agree to the ‘Terms & Conditions for User Contributions’ (above) and you will be asked to confirm this by checking a box on the submission form. Among the most important consequences of accepting these terms are the following:

Acquisition/Takedown Policy 

The project team reserves the right to reject, or amend relevant portions of, submitted stories/memories and digitised objects due to inadequate documentation, when the rights are unclear, and/or when the submissions contravene the University of Oxford’s Regulations Relating to the use of Information Technology Facilities or other Policies. Decisions to accept material depends upon a careful assessment of suitability in relation to the principal collecting area, namely, stories/memories and objects relating to Britain’s and the Commonwealth’s experience of the Second World War.

If you are a rights holder and are concerned that you have found material on our website for which you have not given permission, we will remove it. Please contact us by email (theirfinesthour@ell.ox.ac.uk) stating the following: your contact details; full details of the material; the exact website address (URL) where you found the material; proof that you are the rights holder or an authorised representative of the rights holder.
